We Need You: YPC Will Be "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer"

This is a call to all YPC members: It's time to trade in your dress shoes for a good pair of sneakers.  Our first volunteer opportunity will be the American Cancer Society's “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk.

Over $50 million was raised in 2007 at these walks across the country. This money not only helps those who have breast cancer but also funds innovative research on preventing the disease.

Date of the Walk: Saturday, October 18th

Time: Registration begins at 8:00 AM

Location: Belle Isle Park, Detroit MI

For more event information, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Raquiba Robinson at raquiba.robinson@gmail.com.

The Difference Between Jobs and Careers

There's a great article over at Get Rich Slowly about The Difference Between a Career and a Job.  It goes on to argue for and against the following ideas:

  • A job is something you do simply to earn money; a career is a series of connected employment opportunities.
  • A job has minimal impact on your future work life, while a career provides experience and learning to fuel your future.
  • A job offers few networking opportunities, but a career is loaded with them.
  • When you work at a job, you should do the minimum without annoying the boss. When you’re in a career, you should go the extra mile, doing tasks beyond your minimum job description.

We had 40 people attend, and were happy to welcome lots of new members to the group.  A big thanks to Sam Kassoumeh for bringing the most friends!

Congratulations to Ken Bloink for joining and for being chosen as a participant in Bizdom U, the entrepreneur bootcamp.
